In 80's disco was very popular in Europe and USSR.
It was classic disco, Italodisco, Eurobeat, New-Wave etc.
USSR disco was presented by many local very popular artists.
I say for example that in USSR term 'Disco' many people involve with 80's!
There was many european artists and projects.
Mainstream was from Germany, Italy and UK.
I want to clear up, is they was famous in USA? Maybe some of them was popular in US?

perhaps one of the first prominent doyens of French Disco was a man who actually lived in the USA. His name; Michel Polnareff and in 1976 he recorded 'Lipstick'. A sexual beast of a single 'lipstick' lifted the strings of Philly Soul, added a disco beat and threw in melodies and a hookline that were immediately addictive to the disco generation. Later that year Mort Schuman wrote and Claude Pascal produced Sex O'clock USA's lesser known hit 'baby come home' on the Prelude label (home of French Dj Francois Kevorkian). This underlined France's growing reputation in the process. Another duo of French wonderboys -Henri Belolo and Jacques Morali- would go on to pen some of the biggests hits of the disco era, by artists as diverse as The Richie Family, Patrick Juvet and their finest invention The Village People from the book 'French Connections' by Martin James, 2003 and of course we cannot forget Sheila B & Devotion, Five Letters, Madelene Kane, France Jolie, Alec Constandinos, Max Berlin, Quartz, Revelacion 'The house of the rising sun' and most of all Don Ray. His album 'the garden of love', produced by Cerrone, is regarded still as one of Disco's finest moments...n'est ce pas???

I remember playing LIPSTICK. It was a great track. And DON RAY's album is in my running for best Album of the Disco era. In fact, I think I will go add it to that thread right now. Thanks!

Almodovar muse Victoria Abril did disco as well in 1978, singing in Spanish on "Bang Bang Bang". Another of Pedro's actress muses, the extraordinary Bibiana Fernandez alias Bibi Andersen did several exquisite disco numbers like Call Me Lady Champagne in 1980.
