Backbeats will also utilise the talents of a wide range of compilers across different genres of Black/Dance music throughout future volumes. Little did vocalist Paris Holley realise that when he recorded the original demo session for "I Choose You" in 1984 that veteran Chicago producer Carl Davis would be so impressed that he immediately decided to issue it on his own Kelli-Arts label as it was, demo or not! However, back then, no one realised it would be heralded as one of the all-time greatest Soul love songs by a worldwide legion of fans some 25 years later! the Big Apple Bites Back - New York House & Remix Culture [Harmless BACKB017] The Big Apple really does bite back in this CD. Lots of great House music, including a couple of remixed Disco pearls. The first six tracks are all SalSoul classics in fantastic remixes. Two of these are original works by Larry Levan and Frankie Knuckles, while the others are more recent workouts by Joe Claussell who takes on Double Exposure's "Everyman", Kerri Chandler meets "Dr. Love", "Call Me" by Skyy gets a remix treatment by Blaze and Mount Rushmore Houses up Candido's "Jingo". Todd Terry was THE man of the late 80's NYC House scene and three of his hard pumping tunes are found here, first "Bango" which is a cover/mash-up of the Arthur Russel Dinosaur L classic "Go Bang!", followed by "A Day In The Life" by Black Riot and Hardhouse's "Check This Out". I Get My Groove - Crossover Soul from the Deep South [Harmless BACKB019] "Now That I've Found A Good Thing - I gonna groove groove groove" sings Fontella Bass and that could sub-label this CD with its 26 Southern Soul grooves (mostly) from the earlier part of the 70's. Montclairs' "I Need You More Than Ever", "You Got To Know" by Ronnie Lovejoy and Pat Brown's "Love On Loan" are my favorites, but there are so many more soulful tracks from people like Al Green, Bobby Patterson, Ann Peebles, Patterson Twins, Ted Taylor and others...
